Made in America

Sometimes all it takes is a few minutes to   make a good choice.  This bagged lettuce was made by the local store here and states  it’s 100% USA made where as the major name brand (DOLE) has the same product but it’s not 100% made in USA. Who wants foreign countries produce when we can get our own?  If more than one place is listed who knows what percentage is made here? Another product is the Green Giant frozen veggies in a bag they are a USA product yet for some reason the frozen veggies in a box are from Mexico. Why?

From now on I’m going to be checking to see where the food is from.  I hope more people will take a minute while food shopping to look at the label, for health and to support our USA food producers.

Keep healthy,
Monica

Ever have strange creatures in your attic basement?

Hey there! Recently I was awoken by something flying around in my bedroom.  Well  my first reaction was I must be seeing things since I didn’t have my glasses on. But no my eyes were not tricking me it turned out to be a bird.

Bird in my attic

And that was not the first one over the next few weeks I had  3 more come in the house.  Each time I opened a window to get them to fly out and the last time I caught the cat trying to sneak out. He gave me a scare since my cats stay inside. But I finally found a roofer who would do a repair and not the whole roof.  It turned out there was a small opening along the gutter and that’s how the birds were getting in.  Took a picture of one bird that was in the attic. So anyone else ever have something like this happen?

MAMA movie

Has anyone seen the New Movie MAMA yet?   I have and I’ll tell you a little about what I thought.

mama movie 2013

mama

It starts out where the father Jeffrey kills his wife and takes his girls who are only 1 and 3 on a wild car ride through snow covered roads. Of course, they slide off the road and find an abandoned cabin. They just got into the cabin when MAMA makes her first shadowy appearance, as she stops Jeffrey from harming the girls. This was good, getting some ghostly action so soon.  It then jumps ahead five years when the girls are discovered and reunited with their uncle (who by the way is the same actor as the father). He and his girlfriend take them in. The girls are then placed under a doctor’s supervision and taught how to fit into society again.  At first the adults believe MAMA is all a product of the older girl Victoria’s imagination. However, they soon learn that MAMA is real!!

Overall, I thought it was done well especially for a PG13 film.  It held my interest but I have to say when it got to the end I was disappointed.  I won‘t give it away but it didn‘t make much sense.  It should have had a better plot.  However, for fans of horror, suspense or special effects I would say give this one a go.  It’s really not that bad.  C+

The BEST aspect of this film was the two girls acting. They were very convincing and played their parts well. There were times throughout the film that I was totally amazed at how well the girls portrayed being animalistic, especially Lilly (Isabelle Nelisse) watch the trailer and see for yourself how she crawls around on the floor on all fours, her expressions, and grunts, she’s so young, so believable. I’m sure we will be seeing both of these girls in more films.

Great little actors

Keep watching the movies,  Monica

Crazy dogs!

I saw this mat in a magazine and I have to totally agree that they put the right dog next to the picture.

pet dog mat

If there are any Pug owners out there (like myself) I’m sure you will agree that Pug’s are known for not listening.  They can be just like having a little kid around.  Love to hear your comments on these silly, crazy dogs.

Keep rocking,
Monica

What IS your New Year Resolution?

Happy New Year

We all seem to view the New Year as a fresh start and resolve to do all sorts of things.   So what is your resolution?   Some of the more common are; to lose weight, workout more, eat healthy, watch less TV, spend more time with family & friends, save money, make better use of free time, fix something around the house, paint a room, clean out a forgotten closet, and the list goes on and on.  Personally, this year I decided NOT to make any since many of the things I plan to do get neglected anyway. I look back on last year’s list and think what was the point I still have piles of papers and magazines that I haven’t gone through.  And that was at the top of the list.

Tip of the iceberg

So do you have something that you put on your list and want to share.  Maybe something that you think is unique?

Have a wonderful 2013 and keep rockin,
Monica

Merry Christmas!

I want to wish you a very Happy Holiday.   Music IS the spice of life and at this time of year we celebrate through traditional Christmas songs we all  know like “Silent Night”, “Little Town of Bethlehem”, “Away in a Manger”, “We Three Kings”, “Hark the Herald Angels Sing”, “Joy to the World”, “O Come All Ye Faithful” for a lighter  mood there’s “Holly Jolly Christmas”, “Frosty the Snowman”, “I saw Mommie kissing Santa Claus”, “Jingle Bells” and “Rocking around the Christmas Tree”.  Then there are newer songs that have become popular recently like  “Do they know it’s Christmas”, “Grandma got run over by a Reindeer”, and one I really liked from Greg Lake called “I Believe in Father Christmas” check it out here  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RXCEdrnaFlY

Does anyone know the meaning to the 12 Days of Christmas ? I do and it’s quite interesng.
Keep making music,
